Merge, split and edit PDFs
One part per file, separated by commas: “1-3, 4-6, 7-” makes three PDFs (“7-” goes to the last page).
How it works
Drop a PDF, or several PDFs and images such as photos or scans: they open as one document across the whole width. On the left, the page panel shows a small picture of every page, in order, with the colour of its file: drag a page or use its arrows to move it, turn it a quarter clockwise, remove it, or untick it to leave it out; click a picture to go to the page. "Add PDFs or images" in the toolbar puts more pages at the end, and each image becomes a page. With Select, drag over the PDF’s text to select it and copy it elsewhere. In the toolbar, Edit text changes the words already in the PDF: click a line and type, it keeps its place, size and font. Text, Image and White box add text (click on a word to take its size and font), images, or white boxes that erase what is underneath; they follow their page when it moves. Watermark writes a text such as CONFIDENTIAL across every page, or only the pages you type, in the size, opacity, angle, colour and place you choose. Info tells everything about the first PDF: size, version, pages and their format, title, author, software, dates, attached files, form fields and fonts. Download makes one PDF of the ticked pages, or several PDFs in a ZIP from ranges such as 1-3, 4-6, 7-: give it a name and press Generate. Pages are copied as they are, without any loss of quality. Change file starts again.
Questions
Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?
No. Your browser reads and writes the files itself; the page is not allowed to contact any other site, and nothing is kept once you close it. It is safe for contracts, payslips or medical records.
Does merging reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are: text stays selectable, images keep their resolution, nothing is converted or compressed again.
How do I keep only some pages?
In the page panel, untick the pages to leave out, or untick Select all and tick the ones to keep; the count under it says how many are ticked. Download, One PDF, then makes a PDF of the ticked pages only, in the panel’s order. The pages you untick stay in the panel, faded, so you can tick them again.
How do I split a PDF into several files?
Open Download and choose Several PDFs (ZIP). Type one part per file, separated by commas, with the page numbers of the page panel: “1-3, 4-6, 7-” makes three PDFs, the last one from page 7 to the end; “-3” starts at the first page, and a page may go into several files. Parts past the last page or not understood are flagged and skipped. The list shows each file’s name and page count. Press Generate the ZIP: you get one ZIP holding the PDFs, named after their pages (report-p1-3.pdf, report-p4-6.pdf…), with the pages turned and edited as in the panel.
Why is my PDF refused?
A PDF protected by a password cannot be changed: open it with its password in a PDF reader and save it without protection first. A damaged file or one that is not really a PDF is refused too; the other files of the batch still load.
What does the page panel show?
Every page of the document, in order: its number, a box to tick it, a small picture of it with a top edge in the colour of its file, and buttons to move it up or down, turn it and remove it. The picture follows the page’s real proportions and turns with it, and the large page in the middle turns too, so you can check the order and which way up each page is before downloading. Hover over a page to see which file and page it comes from. The pictures show the pages without your additions; the downloaded PDF is still a copy of the original pages.
How do I turn photos or scans into a PDF?
Drop your JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF images at the start, alone or with PDFs, or add them with “Add PDFs or images”: each one becomes a page of the document, and phone photos are turned upright. Choose the page size in the page panel: the image’s own size, or A4 or US Letter with the picture centred inside a 1 cm margin. JPG photos are placed without being compressed again; the other images keep every pixel.
How do I add text, a signature or a logo, or correct a word?
Drop the PDF: it opens on its pages. Text: click where it goes and type; move it by its handle, change its font, size and colour. Image: choose it, click on the page, then drag its corner to size it (a PNG with a transparent background suits signatures). To correct a word, use Edit text: click its line and retype it. On a scanned page, draw a white box over it, then add the new text on top.
How do I change text that is already in the PDF?
Choose Edit text in the toolbar: a dotted frame shows each line under the pointer. Click a line: it becomes a text box in the same place, size and colour, with the closest font, and you can type, move it, or change its font, size and colour. The roller button next to them copies the format of other text: click it, then on any text of the page, and its font (bold, italic), size and colour are applied. Empty it to delete the line; the bin brings the original back, and a line you leave unchanged stays as it was. In the downloaded PDF the old letters are removed from the file (not hidden) and the new text is written in their place; pictures and drawings under the line stay. Lines are edited one at a time, and the text does not flow onto the next line. Scanned pages hold pictures of text, not letters, so they cannot be edited this way: use White box and Text.
How do I add a watermark such as CONFIDENTIAL or COPY?
Choose Watermark (the drop) in the toolbar and type the text: it appears at once over the pages, as it will be in the PDF. Next to it, set its size, its opacity (the slider: lighter to the left), its angle (45 for a diagonal, 0 for level text), its colour and its place: centre, top, bottom, a corner, or Mosaic to repeat it all over the page. Copies per page (1 to 5) puts it several times, one under another, spread down the page. Leave Pages empty to put it on every page, or type the panel’s page numbers such as 1-3, 5. The downloaded PDF holds it as real text, drawn over the page and your additions; the bin removes it. It is written in Helvetica Bold, which covers Western European languages.
Can added text use the same font as the document?
The Fonts of the document list, under Info, shows each font and its pages, and clicking on a word with Add text gives its font and size. A PDF usually keeps only the letters it uses, so the tool takes the same font from your computer (Find these fonts on this computer, in Chrome or Edge, after the browser asks) or from a .ttf / .otf file you load. Otherwise it writes with the closest standard font: Helvetica, Times or Courier, in regular, bold or italic.
What information stays in the PDF I download?
By default, Keep the metadata is ticked: the new PDF takes the author, title, subject, keywords, software, dates and hidden descriptions (XMP) of the PDF (when merging, of the first PDF you added), and photos you add keep their camera details and GPS position. The tool adds nothing about itself. Untick it under Download before generating to keep only the pages, with their comments, form fields and links: this information, attached files and leftovers of earlier versions are then removed, and photos lose their camera details and GPS position. Pictures that were already inside a PDF are copied as they are, with whatever they hold. Info shows what the PDF holds. The setting is remembered.
Does a white box really erase what is under it?
Yes. In the downloaded PDF, every letter that the white box touches is removed from the file, so it can no longer be selected, copied or found by a search; the words around it stay in place. An image fully under the box is removed; an image partly under it is replaced by a copy whose covered part is white. Text you type over the white box stays. If the page holds text that cannot be located letter by letter (rare fonts), the PDF is not generated and the tool says so.
