How it works
Paste JSON in the editor, open a file or drop it on the page. It is checked as you type: when something is wrong, the line and column of the error are shown with what was expected. The tree lets you fold and unfold objects and arrays, search keys and values, and copy the path of any value. Format, Minify and Sort keys rewrite the text, which you can then copy or download. Repair turns JavaScript or Python-style text into JSON, and the Table view shows the document as nested tables to unfold, and saves a list as CSV.
Questions
Is my JSON sent to a server?
No. Your browser reads, checks and displays it; the page is not allowed to contact any other site, and the document is not saved.
How do I find a JSON syntax error?
Under the editor, the error box names the probable cause (a missing comma, an unclosed bracket, a cut-off file…), which may be a little before where reading stopped, and shows the lines around it. “Go to the error” puts the cursor on it, and when one edit is enough a button fixes that spot; Ctrl+Z undoes it.
Are big numbers kept exactly?
Yes. Numbers stay as written: a long identifier such as 12345678901234567890 is not rounded when you format or minify.
How big can a file be?
Up to 20 MB. Long arrays and objects are shown 100 entries at a time.
How do I get the path of a value?
Click it in the tree, or reach it with the search or the arrow keys: its path, such as $.users[0].name, appears under the tree with buttons to copy the path or the value.
Can it fix JSON with comments, single quotes or trailing commas?
Yes. When the text is a JavaScript object, a Python dictionary (True, None) or JSON Lines, the error comes with a Repair button that rewrites it as valid JSON. Strings that themselves contain JSON can be unpacked too.
How do I convert JSON to CSV or Excel?
Open the Table view: in a list of objects, each object is a row and each key a column. Download CSV saves the list named above the table (the first one of the document, or the one holding the value selected in the tree) in a file that Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets open directly.
